Portable Online Classroom Lighting
May 4, 2018
Why care about classroom lighting? Because, turns out, it’s a great thing to be seen! Maintaining consistent and flattering lighting for you, your background, and all your teaching props can be more challenging than you’d expect. This is especially true for teachers that begin class in the dark and end after the sun rises. Portable online classroom lighting is a great option for travelling teachers, power outages, or those who just need a bit more light on cloudy days. Watch the video to see them in action.
Portable Selfie LED Ring Light
This ring light was designed for taking flattering selfies and where better to look your best than your virtual classroom? The ring light clips perfectly onto cellphones and laptops with a maximum thickness of 3 cm (1.18 inches). It has three brightness settings to adjust to any condition. It recharges with a USB cable, so you don’t have to worry about replacing batteries. Lastly, it is super lightweight and compact, so you can use it for your online classroom lighting anywhere .
Dual-Head 8-LED Clip-On Desk Lamp
This flexible dual-arm light is another great choice for online classroom lighting. Each manipulating arm includes an adjustable light to change both the brightness and the light angle. Under full charge, the battery provides up to 7 hours of lighting at 100% brightness. At 50% brightness, it lasts for about 18 hours. It can stand on its own or clip onto your desk. The spring in the clip is powerful, so we do not recommend clipping it onto a screen. This light runs off of a USB-rechargeable battery.
11W Foldable Desk Lamp
This portable desk lamp has a variety of lighting options to give you flattering and comfortable light in any condition. Choose from 5 different brightness settings and 4 shades of white, including cool, natural, mild, and warm. The light comes with an adjustable arm and a base that swivels in order to direct the light in any direction and fold it up for easy portability. The light runs from wall power and includes a USB charging port for charging phones, tablets, or other devices while you teach.
In addition to giving your classroom a professional touch, good online classroom lighting provides the following benefits:
Guaranteed light in a power outage
Watching the clock tick slowly through all the class times you are missing as you sit next to your non-functioning internet router is never a good feeling. Besides losing out on the pay, you risk losing your job altogether.
Don’t have this anxiety hanging over your head. Be completely prepared for any situation with battery-powered lights, a full laptop battery, and mobile data plan with a hotspot that you can connect to in case your normal internet source goes out. It’s a good feeling knowing that you can teach no matter what happens. It’s an even better feeling knowing that you won’t have to do it by candlelight.
Great lighting conditions while traveling
A huge draw of online teaching is that it can be done from anywhere in the world! This gives you complete freedom to pursue your wanderlust, study another culture, or just take that much-needed vacation with your family. As great as this is, sometimes we end up teaching in places that aren’t exactly set-up for it. Throw a portable USB light into your suitcase so that you have a helper when your only other option is the dim light of the only bedside lamp of your hotel room.
For a glow that will delight your students, check out this 12-pack of colorful LED butterfly lights. While it won’t exactly be your go-to for classroom illumination, they are great for rewarding your students when they perform well. Stick them onto your wall and light one up every time your student gets an answer right. Use them to launch conversations about different insects around the world or how creatures change as they grow.

Hi,
Your flexible dual-arm light is actually a toilet bowl cleaner. Just thought you should know.
Well, that’s embarrassing. I don’t think a toilet bowl cleaner would be too useful in the classroom! Thanks very much for letting us know. I’ve pointed the links to the right place now. Happy teaching!
